Five Turkish Series to Improve Your Turkish

Avrupa Yakası was released between the years 2004-2009. It was the most popular sitcom among Turkish series. The plot of the series is as follows:


Aslı (Gülse Birsel) works as an editor at a fashion magazine called Avrupa Yakası. Her family owns a restaurant and Aslı's brother, Volkan (Ata Demirer) runs the restaurant. The episodes mostly consist of funny events and incidents between Aslı, Volkan, Aslı's colleagues, Volkan's friends, and Aslı's parents.




Diriliş: Ertuğrul is a Turkish television series in the genre of historical fiction. It was released in 2014. The series, which lasted for five seasons, ended in 2019.


The New York Times pointed out that Diriliş's "Ertuğrul" series runs parallel to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's political discourses, adding that "both the deep desire to have a national presence against the enemies, and the messy reality that Turkey is in, to a comforting fantasy world. He commented that it reflects his desire to escape.


Aşk-ı Memnu is the only series that I watched from beginning to the end. The series was adapted from a popular Turkish novel called Aşk-ı Memnu which is written by Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil. The series was broadcast on television between 2008 and 2010. This drama series is about a young woman marrying an older rich man and then falling in love with her niece and having an affair.


Aşk-ı Memnu has broken rating records in Turkey. The series is the top-rated series there.


Muhteşem Yüzyıl is the best Turkish historical fiction series so far. When the series was released, many people did not leave their homes on Wednesdays just to watch this series. Sometimes families even got together to watch new episodes together. It was broadcast on television from 2011 to 2014.


Many television channels have made offers for the series. Agreements were made with twenty-two channels. Broadcasts started in December 2011 and January 2012. In total, it reached more than 210 million viewers in 45 countries.



Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne? was an impressive series that created social awareness and reached a large audience. The series was about a young humble girl who was raped by four men in the forest and set out to seek revenge. It was released between 2010 to 2012.


Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne? With its broadcast in France, the series received nominations in three categories: Best International TV Series, Best International Actress and Best International Actor at the France Soap Awards in 2019.[3] And it won the Best International Drama category and won the Best International Drama Award.
