Lavinia by Ursula K. Le Guin

The story was a reality with a taste of romance. There were strong critiques of nineteenth-century women. Instead of telling you how a woman had to be at that time, the story guides you to criticize woman's behaviors in the nineteenth century.

Lavinia is a young woman whose maiden dreams were crushed for a long time. Under the heavy burden of reality, she got used to her loneliness. She rejected any social status which comes through marriage. Also, she refused the same man who was her first love. The implication that the writer tried to give is in that century woman, a reward that a man completes himself when he possesses it. So, refusing two men and taking care of herself has to be a powerful revolution for a woman.

Recommend to read when you travel in the city. It is rather a short story. :)
